Based in Perthshire, Scotland, The Original Chair Company was started in 2006 by Kate MacKenzie who has always been inspired by her passion for chair design and interior design. What we do
We aim to appeal to discerning and creative people with traditional style and longevity in mind, offering a wide range of services. We provide interior design, quality custom made upholstered furniture, window dressings and a vast selection of quality fabrics. With our highly skilled craftsmanship and expert guidance, knowledge and efficiency from our team we hope to take you through the whole experience with ease and pleasure. Hand Made Upholstered Furniture
We have a collection of comfortable and timeless bespoke furniture for sale. We offer sofas, including corner sofas, individual or co-ordinating chairs and footstools. Most designs are based on classic styles of sofas and chairs; some have been designed by our director, Kate MacKenzie. We cater for all styles of interior decoration; our upholstered furniture’s simplicity ensures pieces will look as fine in a traditional setting as they do in a contemporary one.
We use high quality fabrics and pride ourselves on quality craftsmanship. Our chairs and sofas are made to the very highest specification using traditionally glued, screwed and dowelled solid hardwood frames and any level of filling and springing. We also offer a choice of legs and the option to adjust the size of frames to suit.

Let us help you create a style for your room, whether it be classic, traditional, elegant or contemporary country. Our rooms are designed around individual taste and budget and a large emphasis is on how you intend to use your space. Using the many up to date collections within our fabric studio we hope to provide a scheme for you that will be beautiful and practical for many years to come. We have a wide range of upholstered furniture designs and many original antique pieces. We have more designs available than you see on the website and our handmade pieces can be made to fit any space. Our products are of a high quality, and almost all are made in the UK. When creating the window dressings, all curtains and blinds are made to a very high standard and professionally fitted. We’re happy to visit you in your home and bring along some of the latest fabric collections to help with inspiration and direction.

Fabrics & Wallpapers
We offer a wide range of high quality fabrics and wallpapers and you are welcome to visit our inspiring fabric studio at our showroom. We are happy to discuss your preferences, offer advice and then send fabric & wallpaper samples direct to your home. We can also discuss your requirements over the phone or email. Our favourite collections are from Colefax & Fowler, GP & J Baker, Mulberry, Sanderson, Ralph Lauren, Ian Sanderson and Linwood. Antique Upholstered Furniture
We always hold a good variety of antique sofas and chairs for sale in our showroom. Visit our Antiques page. Clients are also welcome to bring in their own antique chairs and sofas for reupholstery. We can source, upholster and sell all types of antique seating, including armchairs, sofas, occasional chairs, dining chairs and chaise-longues. Using our many contacts throughout the UK we can source chairs from any period; Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian, Art Deco and 1950’s. We specialise in, Nursing Chairs, Wing Back Chairs, Slipper Chairs, Chaise-longues and Chesterfields as well as stamped chairs such as the sought after Howard & Sons. In addition we offer a finding service; if you are looking for a particular style of antique upholstered furniture we will try and source it for you.
We have a real passion for classic antique designs and use contemporary styling to produce eye-catching furniture that adds a touch of elegance to any room. We pride ourselves in our creativity and original style. All of our furniture restoration work is carried out to the highest standard and natural materials and traditional techniques are used where possible. A French Polishing and full repair and restoration service is also offered. This service is also available on other items of antique furniture (not upholstered eg tables).
